I loved the pacing of this, it alternates between being emotionally charged and being faster paced. Ravelle as a character wasn't too compelling, but i get that that was the whole point (where her mother was distant, she's possessive, and other such over corrections). Despite not actually liking her, she's one of my favorite TYPES of characters - ones i don't agree with, but the ones that i do understand and appreciate - if that makes any sense.

On that note, I get what people mean when they say the ending is unearned. The story itself is good, but the ending is so rushed and doesn't make any sense.

(spoilers)

The Graf storyline comes out of nowhere, and the ending with mellie graf would have been amazing if there was more buildup. But that's not something I'm going to hold against the book too much, because i still loved it. The characterization of adam and maurisz is pretty good too, but the last chapter where they just hug elliot and ravelle watches... Not a big fan of that, mainly because it also feels really unearned, considering that through most of the book we see ravelle's intense suspicion towards the two of them. Again, not a dealbreaker, so I'm still giving this book a solid 4/5

Felt like there was this big build up only to be a rushed ending. What was a major mystery in the background was resolved too quickly and looking back, doesn’t really add up.

Still a mostly enjoyable book but certainly not a book that cannot be put down

This was an okay read but it wasn't really about what I thought it would be about. I feel like most of the book was about her adopting her son and not about her being an interpreter, and I expected it to be the other way around. She also has DEEP self control and impulse control issues

If you like thrillers and languages, this is a 5 star candidate for you. I love languages but do NOT like thrillers and will not be going back to one for a while 🤣
