Monster House meets Uncanny Valley, and well that’s kinda fun.
I must admit that at the beginning I hated the story, the characters were pretty annoying and too much pretentious vocabulary and sentences were used for a haunted house story, and the irony was too present. However, I really liked the rest of the story as I realized that this too much of an ironic and pretentious beginning developed into a smart trick that plays upon the reader, and we really grow interested and invested in what the story has to offer. It also questions the bounds we make with places or the hate that can grow towards it, even the part about the « all-American » family is interesting and smart!!

I don’t regret reading this book i’ll say that. At no point did i have any idea what would happen next which i enjoyed! i like a little surprise here and there. Personally i think the title doesn’t match the book. Off title alone i was expecting more humor.
It’s a quick read and the whole story takes place over the course of a few days. While i was entertained it definitely was a little weak on the horror.
