There's “a short essay about a pub” by Dan Melling called “Miracles” that is one of the most striking pieces of writing I have ever come across. Delightful magazine I will be waiting for the next one.

Absolutely essential reading. I love Lumpen, each journal is thought provoking, insightful, sometimes joyful, sometimes cathartic, sometimes painful.

As usual there is a good mix of short fiction, poetry, analysis and reflective articles about what it means to be poor and working class. I am so delighted that this journal exists and gives voice to writers whose voice is often marginalised and our cultures and world views that are often denigrated or chastised.

There is always an absolute authenticity to each writer in each issue - the honesty burns through the pages. This is our voice, the voice of the working class in all it's beauty. It's a celebration, but also a clarion call - for us to not just reflect, but also act on the conditions that harm us as working class people.

I encourage and recommend others to drop this fantastic project a few quid and subscribe. Absolutely essential reading.
