    Cooper, the college hockey player who's never had a serious relationship, and Penny, whose only serious boyfriend betrayed her. Hook-up and then they try to work on Penny's sexual to-do list to deal with her past trauma. But as they work through the list, they both start to catch serious feelings for one another.
     This book was quite steamy! Just the way I like romance, but also dealt with past trauma and mental health. It was a great balance of serious, funny, and spicy! Though a bit on the sad side at times for a college romance.
    Overall, an excellent book.

Okay, I may have a soft spot for books involving characters going on bookshop dates.

Breakaway was such an improvement of First Down. There was way more detail in Breakaway; we got to see Cooper and Penny's relationship build and watch them slowly fall for each other. Plus, the addition of them messaging each other was cute.

Penny's and Cooper's entire love story was too cute! Cooper turned out to be a better love interest for Penny than I thought he would be; based on his character in First Down, it seemed like he would be more of a "player" type of guy. However, he was a sweetie, a little naive and childish at times, but a sweetie nonetheless. Cooper was perfect for Penny.

Penny was a strong character; watching her regain her power and control was empowering to read. Grace Reilly handled Penny's storyline in a delicate and well-thought-out way. And it was good to see that Cooper never pushed her to take steps she wasn't ready to take. Penny's character development was beautiful to watch.

Coach Ryder knew what he was doing, sending Cooper to volunteer for Penny's ice skating class; he wanted his daughter to be happy. Although, it would have been nice to see a couple more skating class scenes. But the cute bookshop date, all the book talk, and Penny's book made up for that.

However, the Uncle Blake storyline dragged out this book. It did feel unneeded and a little too obvious. However, it got Cooper to where he needed to be at the end of the book. But the truths that came out could have been done without dragging out the Uncle Blake storyline.

Overall, Breakaway was fun and emotional all at the same time. I am excited to read the next book in the Beyond the Play series; I can't wait to read Seb's story - he is probably my favourite Callahan brother!
