Wow, Just Wow! Death Defying has taken this series to a whole new level. Yes, as other reviewers have said that it is darker than the previous two, but for me it benifits from this a great deal. Tannis was always an interesting character in the series, and this book really does delve deeper into the woman behind the Captain of the El Cazador.
The balance between plot and romance is really well done. Croft knows how to put you through the emotional wringer. If you are a fan of Firefly, I can't recommend this series highly enough!
