it’s weird to read the books after watching the show considering how different they are. Overall, good start and i’m glad to be reading the series even if it isn’t what i imagined.

I’m usually a firm believer in “the book is better than the show/movie.” The show was better than the book BY FAR. On that note, I enjoyed the book as a different thing. It’s definitely a different view of the characters I love.

I liked the concept, but the execution was so-so. This is another book that suffers from too much soapy teen romance, which gets in the way of some of the more interesting plot elements.

I've watched about half of the first series of the television show, and, well, I can't believe I'm saying this--the gods of literature are sure to smite me for it--but...I actually like the show better than the book. *cowers in fear*

bellarke happened!!! kind of!! well, technically,, for a couple of pages,, before it ended but ohmygod bellarke finally happened??? yES fam this is all ive ever wanted in my life, and it only took two seasons and one book to get it!
the book itself was kind of meh though, like honestly? maybe that's because im comparing it to the tv show,, but seriously,, what is going on. it's such a light-read though, i thought it'd be all dark and gross and twisted but it's written like a freaking fairytale cba. it was way to inconsistent, like?? how did wells know octavia had been taken, if he wasn't in the woods with clarke and bellamy?? i mean jesus, could y'all figure stuff out before you write a book smh,
also wells is so freaking annoying i hate him?? he's so selfish and he may have KILLED the whole poor society in the spaceship thing, but no! clarke! she hates me but whatever! i killed her parents but i still may get laid! kiss me clarke kiss me! kiss me! he's so stupid i hope he dies??? tv show wells was about 1558% better than this trash can,,

bellamy!! bellamy was wonderful, but he was SO different from the tv show bell im almost crying
bellamy blake reading old boring books??? who died?? book!bellamy is cute, tbh, but i can't reconcile him with tv!bellamy and it's so weird,, because there's a prick arse, rude as heck bellamy in my mind and then book!bellamy is so ??not?? like that??
clarke is pretty much the same, i think, but tv!clarke was SO much better, she was hella badass ,,,,but book!clarke isn't that bad I GUESS

i love glassXluke and they were so cute SIGH also why wasn't there MURPHY like in the show :-( or KANE??? honestly i won't shut up about no kane being there :-( Kane. My child. :-(
okay i need to stop comparing the books to the tv show :-(:-( but STILL,,

the book itself, was kinda disappointing. it was so freaking fast-paced it took me two hours to finish the whole damn thing?? but whatever, you take what you get and it has bellarke so!!! (i kind of liked this book, it was cute, and BELLARKE!!!!!!) im so crying over bellarke my LOVE my CHILDREN when clarke kissed bellamy sjshshsudhg dead

Honestly, I may be the only one but I'm just gonna say it, liked it more than the show. I devoured this book in 3 days. The one reason why I took off a star is cause one of th focus characters, Glass, is so annoying I basically skim read all her chapters and am SO VERY glad she was left out of the show all together.

Since watching the series currently…this just felt like one massive piece of fan fiction. Don’t get me wrong, I get why people have a love hate relationship with this book. I kinda do to. It’s no bad, but it’s also just not good. It’s just exists. (This made sense in my head)

Decent book, but there are enough things wrong with it.

I was truly looking forward to this book (note I read this in Dutch, so some names or things might be different). The setting sounded awesome, detained teens getting shipped off to Earth, now it is finally safe(ish).
Didn't really get why they had to put a sticker on it that there is a tv-series, since well no tv-series here and I am sure people will get confused.

So first the good things:

*Setting. Like I explained, I liked the idea of an Earth destroyed (or at least damaged) and that a group of teenagers will have to explore get the world back.
*While I was worried that 4 POVs would be confusing, in the end it wasn't. However, it was still not good, but for other reasons (see Bad Things).
*The cover for the Dutch version was nice, I liked the colours.
*The flasbacks, while at times a bit annoying, they explained quite a bit of the background for the characters. What happened to them, why they are/were in prison or why they boarded that airship.

Bad Things:

*Cliffhanger. I truly hate cliffhangers, especially considering that it will be a long wait before the next book is out and in Dutch.
*The POVs. I don't mind POVs, but we have 3 POVs that tell exactly the same story, just with a few little variations, mostly it is the same. Then we have on POV from Glass, who stayed on the ship. It was highly confusing to be on Earth, and then back to the ship again. I think it could have been done with 2 POVs. Maybe the two girls? Or one girl, one boy?
*The characters. My Gosh I disliked that Clarke girl (who names their girl Clarke btw?). Throughout the whole earth book she was like this: Bleh Wells, I hate you *kisses with Bellamy*, *gets in a fight with Bellamy*, bleh I hate you *kisses with Wells*, *gets in a fight again*, *goes back to Bellamy*. Make up your damned mind girl, you can't have both whenever you want.
I also felt like Clarke was just too focussed on one patient. I can imagine she is your best friend, but come on. There are other people and also other things to do.
Then we have Wells, Oh Gosh I disliked him and his attitude.
Glass was just an idiot.
*The History. What the hell happened to Earth? Why did it go so bad/wrong? Can we please have some sort of pre-part that shows us what went wrong?
*The whole world setting, I mean no one is revolting against the person in charge? Even though he is like throwing all the teenagers in a cell? (there goes your future, people). Also while I kind of understand that they are restricting child birth, the way they did it was overdone and just not necessary.

All in all, I might read the next book, because I want to know what happened at the end, but other than that, not my series.

Another book I heard about for years and never read finally checked off my list. This was interesting, but nothing spectacular. It has a really interesting concept, but lacked development personally for me. I do think Kass Morgan did a good job of connecting the flashbacks to present moments.

The characters themselves I did not find myself too invested in. I think a lot of that had to do with their stories being wrapped and focus around their love interest. Besides Bellamy (at first), the other three’s stories really centered around romance. Every action they did was in the name of love basically. Again, they’re young and this is a fictional world I get it, but there’s no way you can be making every life decision based off someone else like that. I’m not the biggest fans of love triangles and I see that one is brewing with Clarke, Wells, and Bellamy so let’s see where that goes.

The unraveling of certain character actions was something.
Glass and Clarke’s actions came off as selfish in the name of protecting the ones they love. Each of their actions put innocent people in harms way, one of them actually causing someone’s death.
I get they’re teenagers, but really think of your actions. With that said, I do think this book did play well with the human psyche. The idea of how people will react to certain situations for create a specific outcomes and not care who is harmed.

I do plan to continue on with the series and I hope that I do like it more.
