I really enjoyed how this book did not take itself serious until the end. I loved all of the characters (except Isis but she didn't make me mad enough to lower the rating so its fine) and how they interacted with each other. I'm not going to lie though, I did not understand the tables at all. Maybe its because I don't read a lot of heavy fantasy but I just could not wrap my head around how the games were being played. I did, however, find myself impressed with the authors ability to create the world she did. I could never think of a concept like this let alone write an almost 400 page book about it.

Perfect spooky season read! The plot and ideas in this book were really interesting to slowly piece together. Every time I turned the page I feel like there was a revelation. While there were a lot of moving parts Blake did a relatively good job keeping them all going, and giving them a good ending. This is the second book I’ve read by her and I’m looking forward to more!

Was the plot a little convoluted at times? Yes. Were some characters unnecessary to the story? Also yes. Were some lines a little cringy to read and sounded like someone choosing words from a thesaurus at random? Big time.

However, if you push through, you will find a story about how achingly beautiful mortality really is. This book may not be a 5/5, but it certainly will leave you feeling a little bit brighter and maybe a tad bit more hopeful about the future that lies ahead.
