There's a lot going on at the cabin. We have mob hitmen, shapeshifters, demons, a heist, undercover FBI agents, cheaters, a thriving dog shelter, and multiple arsons while our protagonists solve the mystery. Oh, and a heavy-duty crush. All in 48 hours!

And if that wasn't enough, this is just the opening to a much larger story.

If that's piqued your interest (and honestly, how could it not?) then strap in for a high-octane thrill ride with Laura, Todd, and a pack of dogs. There's just SO much going on at all times that I'm kind of amazed it all fit in 200-ish pages. Actually, I don't think it did. This story is so full, so layered, so action-packed that it probably needs at least twice as many pages to untangle it. It's difficult to follow the half a dozen unique storylines, especially since the mystery plot doesn't crystallize until the second half of the book. Whether this is the result of enthusiastic editing or just concision, I'm not sure.

The supernatural aspect of At the Cabin is minimal and initially, there is no supernatural detective agency. This appears to be the teaser/origin story. Right off the bat, we know that Kate "isn't human," but there's not much more detail than that. I definitely wanted to explore more of this angle, but I suspect I'll have to wait for the next book.

Honestly, this story would be best suited for a tv series.

If you're looking for a heart-pounding, mind-tangling, intensely detail-driven story with countless twists, At the Cabin is sure to keep you on your toes.

Special thanks to BookSirens, the author, and the publisher. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
