I don't think anyone can recreate the unique energy of Tina Fey's Mean Girls. All the quirky dialogue fell apart. What makes Mean Girls stand out is the way it defies tropes and creates a nuanced message. All these qualities were not present in this rendition of the story.

I feel like my one big complaint is that a lot of the characters looked very similar, which made it very hard to differentiate. But I really liked it, and I liked having a sort of sequel with the original characters still very central to the story.

I was really looking for some nostalgia when I but this book. It's not what I got. Yeah, there was the whole "down with the bully" mood, but this graphic novel jumped around a ton and could be hard to follow. Almost an entire school year in 88 pages of pictures? Eh.
...
Also:
1. They mentioned a military parent and how he probably "killed a bunch of people". Very insensitive. This is not something that service members or veterans brag about or even like to talk about.
2. Coffee from Columbia? Did the author mean ColOmbia in South America? (Different spelling)
3. The double negative of "don't need no man" was dumb. If it was intentional, it didn't fit the character. If it wasn't... just, urgh.

Cute and quick paced book, not a lot of set up before the storyline starts so it was a little jarring. Basically the exact same plot as the actual Mean Girls movie except with a different cast. Overall cute and quick.
