More like a history of science book regarding the human genes, at least in the first half of the book. I especially enjoyed the very detailed account of the CRISPR baby incident. The author gave a very fair portrayal and as a Chinese I think his analysis into He’s mentality and China’s response is absolutely point on. I also like how unbiased this book is regarding the other characters in the CRISPR race even though this is technically about Doudna. Last but not least some excellent thought experiments regarding germline editing. Very well rounded book, would recommend to everyone.

Jennifer Doudna is a fascinating subject for a biography, but know that the book is not just about her. I assumed it was. She is the focus, to be sure, but the book is much more about CRISPR. Not that this is a bad thing. I found it a fascinating read, although I was definitely in over my head at times.

Unnecessary long

A very digestible science/biography book for the public, but personally, I feel that half of the book is spurious. It's true that science is a team effort, and it's useful to introduce all the team players and competitors, but it went off tangent at some point

Very well written and well researched, focused on the amazing Nobel prize winning Jennifer Doudna and the groundbreaking discovery of CRISPR. This book is a “journey of discovery” and charts the career of Doudna and how she discovered CRISPR. Also, there is an entire section dedicated to CRISPR’s applications on COVID 19.
