This book felt like the author had his ending from square one and went back to write the story. That's fine, but there were a few, how do I say, cheats and oddities which made sense once I read the ending.

Exhausting. I am either exhausted from the scares, the action, or something else when I read a book by Jeff Long. It was the something else this time. The reader is along for the climb with the characters in this book. The long, treacherous climb up a sheer wall.
Jeff Long must be a climber as the descriptions are very precise and have the feel of someone who has done this many times. Where to put what, how climbers behave, what can be found on ledges (ick).
I can highly recommend Jeff Long's books. Not a dud in the bunch that I have read of his. THE DESCENT is my favorite. THE WALL is in the top five.
Definitely recommend.

Finished "The Wall" by Jeff Long. First of all, there are too many books out there named, "The Wall." And no, this has nothing to do with Pink Floyd. It's about a rock climber's midlife reliving of past glory on El Cap in Yosemite, and how his life is tangled up with several others. Had I any knowledge of rock climbing terminology and culture, I would have probably liked it even more, but even without that, I liked it well enough. However, I didn't like the ending. That makes it difficult to say what I didn't like without spoilers. The revealation was fine, but where it went from there just annoyed me. I felt shorted. For the most part, the writing was clean and the descriptions and analogies painted the scenes nicely.

This book freaked me out. a Lot. I'd forgotten how good Long is at creating unease and making people forget reality.
