This was cute! I really liked this for what it was. I loved the characters and all around it was just a fun silly story. But because this is a silly kids story under 200 pages it just didn't have any wow factor. I would recommend to kids though

Not as good as I remembered, unfortunately. Could have used something - I'm not sure what, but I feel like it didn't quite hit the mark. Not a BAD book, for sure, but not great.

Entertaining read with a wonderful heroine. Rizka is witty, mischievous, and a delightfully refreshing character. The townfolks are colorful, too, and the conflict drew more than one laugh from me. I'd buy this one for my personal library.

I love Lloyd Alexander's smart, strong, and kind female characters. These related short stories feature a clever young girl with a knack for outsmarting the annoying adults who underestimate her. Kind of reminded me of the old Brer Rabbit stories.

If I read this as a child, I would have loved it. As is, I still liked it. Such a funny and sweet story about a Gypsy finding her forever home.

Lloyd Alexander is an author I have always enjoyed. This is one of his lesser known books and while it is not my favorite of his it is still quite good. His writing style is such that it definitely stands up to the test of time.

Without a doubt his most cartoonesque creation. And so much fun!

A review from my old blog...
Such a cute and fanciful book. I love how Alexander created such a lovable character that in the end chose to love all of those who when looking at her at first didn't love her.
Lloyd Alexander remains one of my favorite authors.
