A very pretty poem with interesting, well done imagery. Very reminiscent of folk tales.

“Living creatures believe they own something as soon as they love it. They refuse to believe otherwise, no matter how many times a beloved vanishes.”

I read this in a single sitting. If I had more time, I’d read it through again. Nethercott brings a fable precise, bright, haunting, tethered with specificity and also glimmering with timelessness. I am enthralled.

I finished this personified/anthropomorphic bird song in one short sitting, but I must re-read it again and again! During my first readthrough, I found myself overanalyzing (and salivating over!) all the poetic devices in each stanza of Part I. But for the following sections, I just had to let myself go and enjoy the story without pausing to glean the same passages over and over.

If you struggle with modern poetry (like me), try this one. It actually makes sense and is not just an endless string of pretty words.
