It was fine but just didn't hit for me compared to some of Kate Canterbury's other books. I generally liked Brooke and JJ's personalities but it got to the point where it was almost too combative, everything was a fight and it was just a little exhausting to read. Their relationship was a bit all over the place, it didn't feel secure or like they were fully together even when they were supposed to be. I did like their relationship in the epilogue but by then it felt like we had a different Brooke.

I liked the inclusion of the characters from the other books especially seeing more of Annette and her friendship with Brooke from Brookes side. I still liked the setting of Talbott's Cove, the small town feel and closeness of the community. Kate Canterbury's writing style is lovely, super easy to read.

Yes to everything. Just yes.

This book was amazing. Brooke’s strong personality and character were everything I’d love to be. JJ’s gruff, caring, standoffish, sexy characteristics are everything I’d want in a man. The way they balance each other out is simply perfect. And don’t get me started on Brooke and Annette’s friendship. #goals. As always, Kate leaves me wanting more. More BAM and Jed. More Talbott’s Cove. More Owen and Cole. More real life stories with strong ass women and the men who love them. Perfection Kate. Just perfection.

Love this book. Kate is known for her grumpy men and she sure delivered with JJ. But Brooke gave him a run for his money. The struggle and heat between these two is unbelievably good. And I was so happy to revisit Talbotts Cove.

reread in 2022 and it just hits me in the feels again and again and i love JJ and Brooke so much.

My favorite Talbott's Cove story

By far my favorite in the Talbotts Cove series, I've been eagerly awaiting Brooke's HEA. Brooke is prickly, stubborn, verbal about what she wants and doesn't want, and takes no prisoners. She's a billionaire and she's not here for anyone's guff but is stuck back at home in a place she thought she left behind, with a father who doesn't know her anymore, and no plans for the future. I adored watching her bang against grumpy JJ, both verbally and phsyically, and ate up every quipy line from their arguments.

I also loved how JJ pushed Brooke, but not too much, and never expected her to change. He met her where she was at and slowly won her trust and her heart. This story takes place over very long stretch of time, which I appreciate, but is definitely not a slow-burn.

CW for dementia, parental death, discussion of a secondary character's addiction, and alcohol.

Loved it.

The audiobook for Far Cry is absolutely delicious, I really liked both the narrators. The way JJ said BAM and Brooke said Jed gave me all the oomf feels I was hoping for. I'd also like to try some of JJ's gin right now please, and basically just let me live there right now.
