These essays were okay. I understand a lot of them, but they clearly are catered to Americans as the author is first generation American. I feel like I’ve read these before.

Interesting, funny, and thought provoking, especially the part about her speaking on the college campus and finding a wedding DJ in Miami.  I’ll keep reading whatever Capó Crucet writes!

This book was so deeply relatable in a way I could not expect! She made me realize the parts of my life that felt so mundane and normal and expected were actually something unique and specific and beautiful. I felt so seen— really! A huge, huge recommendation for anyone from Miami and anyone with Hispanic lineage at all.

Reading Crucet is like drinking a cup of Cafe con Leche where you are first struck by the coffee but then left with delicate strands of cinnamon and nutmeg which is to say each essay in this collection has layers of complexity that provokes internal examination and cross examination. It's an unrelenting sun boring through to the center of your soul type of essays, the ones that simultaneously make you wanna call up your sister but also stay away from home.

Awful, stereotypes white Americans and stereotypes Cubans. She needs to check her own privilege
