These are not literary masterpieces, but of the four short horror stories, two of them were scary as hell.

Deciding on the exact rating is tricky... I LOVE how this audio was put together. I have been meaning to try dramatizations but needed to be in the right mindset. The first story had me. The next ones were... mixed. The executions of all four were great and will definitely have me looking out for more dramatizations, especially for horror due to the increased engagement I had. I just hope I can find stories I "click" with more regularly. I did go with four because of the high quality of execution and I mostly enjoyed the stories - really loving the first.

Casting the Runes - 5-stars - LOVED this one. I was on the edge of my seat as I tried to work diligently and listen at the same time.

Lost Hearts - 3.5-stars - Eh? It wasn't bad. Just a bit predictable, especially the ending.

The Treasure of Abbot Thomas - 2-stars - I just wasn't a fan of this one. Seems with the themes involved, there were A LOT better places this could have been taken and a disconnect with where it actually was.

A View from a Hill - 3.5-stars - I might give this a 4. It wasn't BAD. Mostly I found the husband's character pretty insufferable. He annoyed me. A lot. If that had been toned down maybe I could have enjoyed it more.

I've never read any of the original stories, but I found these enjoyable! I like dramatizations -- when I'm in a rut, I love listening to The Twilight Zone's radio dramas -- so this was fun for me. The voices were great and I loved the sound effects. The only thing that didn't work, in some ways, were the stories. While they were enjoyable, I found them a bit predictable and I could see exactly where they were going very early into the stories.

Not one to mess up it's perfect three star rating, this was only...okay. I'm not a horror fan, per se, I find them to either be Too Scary or else just plain upsetting. Frankly, this one erred on the side of upsetting, especially regarding the last two stories.

Pearl Mackie's performance, though...excellent. I love her.

Four stories here. One of which definitely hit the note in horror I prefer: a kind of darkly triumphant story, one of which had the "hopeless" vibe I don't really like, one that didn't really have an ending (partly, I think, because of an audio dramatization that was supposed to feel unsure?) and one that fell somewhere in the middle.
