This book's description caught my attention and I decided to give it a try. Plenty of bad language and some sexual content on the story line (not to mention a totally stupid/selfish mother who put her children in danger) all started to wear on me. Then I started to worry it was going to be one of those endings where the "twist" is that all the good guys are really the bad guys who get away with it, and I couldn't take it anymore. I hate, hate, hate mysteries that end in injustice and didn't want to waste my time if it was that, so I looked at the end of the book. I'm glad to report that the ending is not a morally dark twist as far as I can tell, but I'm still glad I decided not to waste time on reading the whole book because of the bad language, etc. I decided most recent secular suspense books are just not worth my time (unless a recommendation from someone whose tastes I trust). Either the endings have that injustice problem, or the rest of the content puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I really enjoy this author, book this book is not her greatest. I usually finish her books within a day or two because I can’t put them down, but this one seemed to drag on and many of the decisions made by Alice, one of the main characters, took me out of the story because they were so unrealistic. The twist/reveal wasn’t shocking really. It was just an okay read for me!

S-l-o-w. This one did not grip me right away or really ever. I guessed very early on the "twist" so that made the revelations drag out when more. She still always has an enjoyable way of writing but this one was a different for me. I didn't grow to love or like any of the characters.
