I enjoyed this more than I thought that I would. Especially when the actions that happen around the 40-50% mark happen, and not at the end - well, I was surprised to see what our two MCs got up to next. A bit rushed at times, though that could just be the action in the book, I had a good time here. I'll go back and read the first two books in this trilogy - I had no issues with reading this one as a standalone.

This was an amazingly fun story! Mary has been pretty much hiding from society. She refused to ever be properly presented. Her sister brings her to the city under the guise of needing assistance at the end of her pregnancy, but she convinces Mary to get out to some functions. Wouldn't you know it, she attends a literary salon and goes to hide in the library, where she's followed by the irresistible Geoffrey. They're caught in a compromising position and end up overhearing an assassination plot. Now, because of their reputations (his for pranks; hers for daydreaming) no one believes them. So they must solve the puzzle involving identifying the target and the guilty parties and then take it upon themselves to save the day. So we have a crazy adventure. And along the way we get some sweet romance. Geoffrey might be immature, but he knows there is something about this girl that he can't give up. I love how the story encompasses so much more than just the romance leading up to the betrothal. We get to see the after-the-wedding stuff, too. We get to feel their insecurities. I very much loved reading this and would not hesitate to grab something else by this author. I received a copy of this story from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Light and enjoyable. I liked that both West and Mary grew as individuals and that while steamy this novel wasn't just about sex. There were, however, a few things that really irritated me. One being the convoluted and unrealistic confession of motives by the villains in the final chapters. Another was West's ability to turn anything into innuendo. And then there was this sentence: "Both as a man, a sailor, and a husband." Really? Both?

Four stars on the book as a whole. The assassination plot was well crafted and I enjoyed the twist. I found the heroine mildly annoying and borderline delusional. Five stars to that one steamy scene halfway through.

I enjoyed this book. I got a little bit bored in the middle because I knew they were going after the wrong guy and it irritated me. I also felt like it was dragged out a bit. But over all a good book.
