The premise, the multi POV, the time flips and the mystery are all pluses in this complex ghost story. Things get a little convoluted as multiple parties converge for the climax. Silly even. It's not enough to ruin the story but it is enough to go from very good to mediocre in spots.

I was captivated by the multiple points of view as well as the mystery within the story. McMahon paints a beautiful picture of a remote countryside that has been the backdrop for supernatural suspicion for many years. The plot was so well done that I could feel the cold during the winter storm. An excellent snowy day read!

I'm sorry Stephen King but this was a better Pet Sematary than yours.

Obviously, the two stories are different but all I could think about was this when I was reading the book. Jennifer McMahon is the queen of these dual timeline chilly stories. It was a great winter read which you can guess from the title.
The plot, the characters, the mystery... I was holding my breath the hold time I read this, I loved every aspect of the book.
I was afraid that the story will be so similar to SK's that the end would not be my favorite thing in the world but I was pleasantly surprised.

If this book is on your tbr, please read it immediately.

What a bunch of spooky malarkey. Paced really well—so fun and FAST to read. That said, there were so many weird holes and plot points and characters that didn't quite ring true. Also, can you culturally appropriate by writing a stereotype of a person not of your own culture who is poorly thought out save her complexion, beaded clothing, insultingly simple spirituality, and then insult her further by giving her a totally unrealistic motive for graphic behavior? That rubbed me pretty far the wrong way.

Anyhoo. Lois Duncan for grownups around Halloween. Seriously entertaining.

Oh boy. This book was such a letdown. When I started it, I was so completely engrossed and creeped out (in a good way). I loved the atmosphere the author created for Sara’s diary scenes from the past. It was so eerie and bone chilling. The present day stuff is what tore me away from the mood that was created and nearly ruined the book for me. Some of the present day plot and characters were just so unnecessary and muddled. If the book had taken place completely in Sara’s time period, I would have enjoyed this much more.
