I enjoyed this historical fiction account of a riot grrrl band. I also loved the illustrations and color scheme. It dragged a bit at the end, and it bothers me that it was written by a man.
Graphic: Vomit, Fatphobia, Misogyny, and Body shaming
Moderate: Sexual harassment, Cursing, Violence, Racism, Eating disorder, Blood, and Abortion
Minor: Alcohol, Excrement, and Injury/Injury detail

The art in this book is beautiful...the expressions, the body language, the overall look of it.
On the more down-side, I felt I was looking for content in this book...what are the young women angry about? What are they articulating as counter-culture? I think young punk rocker women in the 90s had lots to say, and I wanted a reflection of that in this piece of fiction.
It also disappointed me that the girls were portrayed as essentially without talent...it was about screaming/acting out/daring to perform without enough practice....but I wanted them to be a force to be reckoned with, just as talented, accomplished and rehearsed as the boys.
Ok final point: I was disappointed that the friendship between the girls was not developed...they spent so much time on the love interests and really didn't develop the personalities of the girls.

I loved this book, it made me cry. (That’s always the marking of a good book). I’ve recently gotten into researching the history of punk music and culture, so I read this at the perfect time. An all-girl punk band? Yes please! There was such raw, empowering energy to this story that swept me along right to the end.
