Seriously enjoying these more than I thought I would. I love how fast they are to read, too.

Short and sweet, the little children's books tend to look at a few scenes as an "episode" and for you to continue with the next book. Graphics are well-sketched and penciled in while being fun and detailed for the small size. The story is an intriguing one that should easily draw in young minds as the brother and sister discover an alluring guidebook, fight little goblins in the yard trying to open it, and start seeing things of another reality. A worthy start. 4 instead of 5 stars as even more could have been added to spice it up, but overall I'm pleased with this introduction to the Spiderwick books.

Very satisfying second book in the series. Black does an excellent job with a quick recap and then moving the story forward. This story was particularly action packed. My daughter and I gasped at some of the gross humor (hobgoblin spit) and potential horror (that troll in the lake, the cat-eating goblins with glass for teeth). We both read it in paper and listened to the audiobook rendition performed by Mark Hamill (highly recommended!)
