Outer God is an incredible extension to the Lovecraft mythos, the first time I read this comic (almost a year ago) I remember being swept up in the confusion and madness of the final act, and finishing the book ultimately unsatisfied, however upon reading again (and taking note of the dates at the start of the journal entries) the story took more form, and although I still feel the story doesn’t end as cohesively as I’d like, I absolutely love the narrative, and the artwork is gorgeous. Definitely and author/artist duo to keep an eye on!

I am very confused. Mostly horrified. Seriously disturbed.

I love Lovecraft, I love graphic novels, and I love Toh. The art is beautiful and horrifying, with monstrous creations that truly rival those of Silent Hill.

The story Labelle crafted was trippy in the best way. Even though this story came out years ago, I got serious Amnesia: Rebirth vibes while reading it. To this day Amnesia still creeps me out to my core, so well done!

While I have no way of knowing Labelle's background there were times it did feel like part of the story was lost in translation, or had been edited to the point where I lost the thread of dialogue. There was a brief section at the end of the book mentioning the story had originally been twice as long. The Outer God is by no means short, however it did give off the feeling of something missing. Whether this was intentional or a result of editing, I cannot say, but it did leave an impression. Stories with ambiguous endings are always a risk, and I am not entirely sure it payed off here.
SpoilerThe only thing clear to me in the end was Nyarlathotep or some similar eldritch being had created a time loop in the pyramid. The rest of the story was more or less lost to me.

Overall, not a bad graphic novel by any means! It was horrifying as all homages to Lovecraft should be, but maybe could have benefited from an extended script.
