I'm reading the books in order so I read these two books with another in the middle. I feel that Peter robinson's writing style has moved forwards and the characters have developed. I really enjoyed 'the summer that never was' in particular, although it was very sad.

Adequate writing and a fair plot, but nothing very original or frightening.

Really good.
Liked the parallel between the two cases.

Always enjoy the Peter Robinson novels they flow so well when reading especially the dialogue scenes. It was a good to finally have a resolution to the death of his friend Graham which had been hinted at several times in previous novels and the idea of Alan being haunted by an incident in his past which he believed might have saved his friend was so believable. To me the Luke Armitage case was a distraction as I kept wanting to get back to find out what was happening with Banks! A good read.
