What did I just read? I described this to a friend as "if Forrest Gump had been a 500 year old vampire" and I stand by that description. This is a follow up to Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, but I think this could reasonably standalone if you've read a summary of that one.

We follow Henry Sturges, who becomes a vampire in the colony of Roanoke in the 1500s through the dawn of the 21st Century. Along the way, he meets an ensemble cast of historical figures as he seeks to undermine a conspiracy spanning centuries. We meet John Smith and the Powhatan, Lincoln and a host of US Presidents, the Romanovs of Russia, Nicola Tesla, Mark Twain, and Howard Hughes among others.

I really liked the concept, but the execution was lacking for me. Maybe it would've been better as a series, so more depth could've been given. As it was, it was kind of a whirlwind and I got whiplash at some points.

Definitely stay away if you are turned off by gore.
