The start of this book was more on the boring side for me, though Pratchett's writing style is never boring to read and is in fact quite entertaining. Midway through, the book finally picks up the pace and because quite enjoyable. The character development the main character goes through is interesting and insightful, and provides commentary on how religion sometimes doesn't make sense. For fantasy readers, I would recommend.

Just re-read this. It was a bit better than I remembered.

I hadn't noticed before how smoothly Brutha develops from a nearly-total nonentity into a schlemiel, then a nebbish, then a quite interesting person, then ... well, read the book.

It's a shame to show us Lu-Tze and not give him more to do, but he's in other books so I am not complaining.

There's some mildly interesting joshing about philosophy.

Vorbis is totally one-dimensional, but that turns out to have been necessary.

Dibbler's here, of course, but doesn't really contribute anything. Almost padding.

Overall, there just aren't as many clever bits here as in other Pratchetts. The pace is slower than others. The plot developments are less interesting. Almost feels as if someone else wrote it, trying to be Sir Terry and not quite making it.

In particular, as before, this is one of the few Pratchetts that a first-timer should NOT start with. It's just not good enough to represent him.

This book targets and tackles organized religion and makes you laugh hard about how silly this all is. Then you stop laughing and flinch when you realize this silly discworld thing you're laughing about is actually a real-life issue. Funny cause it's true? No. Funny despite of being true. But it makes you wonder... Hats off to Sir Terry.
