This is quite possibly my Favorite Book Ever, because it combines [a: Neil Gaiman|1221698|Neil Gaiman|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1234150163p2/1221698.jpg]'s wonderfully witty writing style with my OTP (One True Plot *g*)—an ordinary person is thrust into an extraordinary situation. Perfect from cover to cover.

The anxiety this story created for me became unbearable. Something to do with a person losing everything, including his identity and being thrust into another world not of his choice bothered me on some very personal level. I had to put it down and I never tried any of Gaiman's other books. This one was too much a horror story for me and I don't read those.

A solid 3 stars. It was a book, I read it, I enjoyed reading it, I will forget it by a week from now. good characters and engaging plot, but nothing really special about it. I recommend it if you’re looking for something that feels like someone telling you an extended bedtime story (this is not a jab)

I guess I should be used to marveling at everything Neil Gaiman writes by now, but he continues to surprise and impress me with each new story.
This is, perhaps, my favourite book yet. One of my most beloved tropes is the ordinary man being thrust into a strange new world and be forced to rise to the occasion or fail spectacularly. Richard Mayhew doesn’t not disappoint. He’s just bumbling enough to be human without being annoying and his greatest strength, in fact, turns out to be his ordinary brand of kindness that seems to be few and far between in London Below. Door is also a strange, intelligent, and enigmatic figure that typifies London below and acts somewhat as the readers guide through the realm. Then, of course, there is the Marquis de Carabas. My favourite character and without a doubt the best the most resourceful in any room. He plays the role of a kind of rogue magician perfectly and add spice and chaos to any scene he’s in
Then there’s the darkly wonderful world of London below itself. It’s a wildly creative romp through a perpetual night with plenty of colorful characters and situations to delight the reader.
The pacing of the story itself, combined with the sinister villains, plot twists galore, and lovable characters makes this one of the best books I’ve read in ages and a real treat. Absolutely would reccomend to anybody.
