There are some beautiful character moments sprinkled throughout (
the part that's sticking with me is "you don't have to forgive him, but you do have to forgive yourself for loving him"
) but ultimately it just felt like we were moving three steps forward and five steps back the whole way. This and the second book should've been made into a tighter novel for a good duology

I finished this book but… at what cost?
one of the few books that surprised me, and yet I would have preferred that it didn’t.

The final book in this gripping trilogy struggled a bit to stick the landing with the constant yo-yo-ing between being captured, breaking free, being chased, being captured, breaking free but in the end the conclusion was gripping and the constant back and forth added a sense of urgency and desperation to the whole affair. Would recommend.

this was a very enjoyable series!

there are so many things to like about these books: the storyline was interesting. its a character driven story, and i love that we got characters who make mistakes and aren’t at all perfect. the romance and angst/longing between Anton and Jude throughout the series. i’m a sucker for sister relationships so Ephyra and Beru stole my heart right away. it was all lovely :)

my only problem was the development of certain relationships, and the friendship between the characters as a whole. the romantic interests for Ephyra, Beru and Hassan just happened so fast with no warning or build up. same with the friendships. i mean they were still nice and wholesome, i just got a bit of whiplash with how quickly it was all moving lol

in hindsight, reading the entire series back to back was probably not the wisest decision, only because of the empty feeling i’m getting since i’m completely done and will never see these characters ever again. regardless of the problem i had with this series, i’m kind of sad about how quickly i went through these books. the ending was bittersweet and all of the characters will definitely be missed !
