The Americanisms scattered through the story are a little jolting to a British audience, but it doesn’t spoil the fun.

Quick and easy read. Kind of difficult to anticipate the end result

I had a very fun romp through this British high society, locked room cozy. Anthony “Anty” Boisjoly, a 1920s aristocrat, receives a telegram while sitting at his London club. His old school chum has asked him to come to his aid at his country home with an odd message that his uncle has been defenestrated. Apparently murdered, Anty is more than ready to join his friend Fiddles to figure out why Sebastian was killed.

Fiddles (or Fairfax to those not among the friends’ schoolmates) quickly becomes the main suspect. But of course Anty is on the case, as is the inspector called in to investigate. The amusing cast of characters includes an elderly footman prone to getting lost, a bitter cook, and a goat meant to keep the estate trimmed.

Fans of both Wodehouse and Christie will thoroughly enjoy this book and still be challenged in figuring out who really did commit the murder—and then some.

THE CASE OF THE CANTERFELL CODICIL by P. J. Fitzsimmons
The First Anty Boisjoly Mystery

Anty Boisjoly has a knack for fixing things so it's no surprise when his old school chum, Fiddles Canterfell, asks him to come to Canterfell Hall when his uncle mysteriously dies. Pitting his wits against the police inspector investigating the crime, Anty looks to the servants, the family, guests, and a goat for clues to a locked room mystery...when another locked room mystery arises. Will Anty be able to deduce what really happened?

I'm not sure if THE CASE OF THE CANTERFELL CODICIL is a send up or a tribute to the golden age of detective fiction. Whatever the case, it's a very clever, extremely well plotted locked room mystery.

The first Anty Boisjoly Mystery is a cerebral puzzle full of word play. The people here are superficial and there's not much character development, but lack of depth doesn't diminish the mystery here. I enjoyed the witty banter and the setting of a manor house whose gilded edge is somewhat tarnished in 1929 England.

THE CASE OF THE CANTERFELL CODICIL gives a wink and a nod to classic manor house mysteries and is an amusing step back in time.

FTC Disclosure – The author sent me an e-copy of this book in the hopes I would review it.

Anty Boisjoly is known as a bit of a problem solver to his pals, which is why when his friend's uncle is killed (in a locked room no less!) he sends for his help.

What a fun read! It's described as Wodehouse with a murder and it really is. Solid mystery, genuinely witty and funny. I went between reading it and listening to the audiobook, and the narrator is very good too, absolutely fits the text. Really pleased that there are more in the series, and look forward to the next one.

Another witty episode in the antics of Anty.  Worth reading for the colorful insults alone.  If you sigh with regret that the adventures of Bertie Wooster are, due to the death of the author, sadly finite, pick up an Anty Boisjoly mystery.
