Okay so IKEA, but what if it was haunted?? Hendrix brings a quirky horror filled idea to life in this novel and it is SO entertaining. The vivid details of the story really bring to life all the horrors our FMC Amy has to endure during a night shift at Orsk.

What is supposed to be a dusk till dawn shift quickly turns into nightmare fuel when Amy and her coworkers are thrust into the unimaginable at a place that is basically a second home to them. And for some a second or primary family.

I was wholly entertained while reading this and you will too if you decide to pick it up! Classic Grady Hendrix at its finest!

I liked parts of it a lot, but the middle lagged. The last 10 minutes of the audiobook were good though!

I did not like this book. I believe it's the first two star I've ever given out as I usually DNF if I dislike it enough. It's a fairly short book, so as I was only bored with the first half, by the time I really couldn't stand it anymore it only had an hour left and I fought my way through.

The first half of the book is mostly taken up with describing a knock-off IKEA store, where the main character works, in great detail. So that was boring, but it was written so that I didn't hate it. Then I reached the halfway point of the book and it's like I was reading something completely different. The characters hold a "seance" at the store which is built over a prison from the 1800's. They end up summoning the spirit of the evil prison warden, who then possesses the body of a homeless man who was living in the store (strange storyline that just seems to peter out). The store itself is haunted & you can't easily find a way out. Then the spirit tortures them & kills three. It's just a strange mix of writing styles to me. It's pretty mellow and then there's just random descriptions of torture that don't "fit".

If I had read this book first, I wouldn't want to read anything else by this author. But I started with We Sold Our Souls and thought it was pretty good, so I'm willing to give him one more chance after this. It wasn't a bad idea, just a bad execution.

Wowww! That was a wild and fun ride! The format of this book was sooo clever and loved the setting and how they incorporated the products into the story! The author has an amazing imagination! It was just the right amount of thrill and scare and the pacing of the story was great although did find chapter 16 a little bit of a drag but defo made me feel claustrophobic too which was a weird feeling. I think everytime I visit Ikea I will always remember this book!

I would love to see this made into a movie adaptation! Also hope there is a sequel because I need to know what happened to the others! :(

I devoured this book up as wanted to keep reading and loved how the tone changed so suddenly went from 0 to 100 in no time!

Another good one from Grady Hendrix. I enjoy the thought of a haunted Ikea-like store, especially with the added prison allegories. Because in a lot of ways, retail does feel like prison. It's where people go to burn out. But it is also a community. Oftentimes, a lot of someone's social circle is directly tied to their jobs, which was exemplified in this story. I also like how Grady did do a bit of a bait and switch, making it seem like Amy is just a loser, when in reality she was beaten down by life and needed something to push her to do more. It being a haunted warehouse store maybe wasn't the best thing, but it did eventually make her want for more. I'm also glad Basil had some personal growth too. I've known some Basils, and they're the most annoying people to work with.
A star off, because as much as I love Hendrix's work, they also do tend to be a bit misleading. I thought I was getting a fun haunted store book; this was more about what was there before the store. You think his books are about one thing, and wind up being about another. It wad also hard to read some of the cursive found on the pictures in the book, but that could also be because I was reading an e-book on my phone.
I did really, really enjoy the catalogue stuff in it.
