Maybe this could have been three stars if I had read it instead of listening to it? I didn’t like the way the narrator chose to voice Breen’s character, which is problematic. But setting that aside, there was a lot I didn’t love about it. The first third of the book totally dragged; there was neither plot progression nor character development to speak of. Parts 2 and 3 were better once some big baddies were introduced. But I also realized how utterly bland and basic some of the writing is. “She went to her desk. She opened her laptop. She wrote. She realized she was hungry and went downstairs to make some toast.” Not exactly interesting. I’m not at all sure I’m going to continue with book 3.

I really enjoyed the follow up to the first book. I’m SO glad Marco stayed in the story as his character is so fun with Breen. Another cozy read, this one hinted towards where the last book with take us…perhaps not quite as cozy a feel but more of a fantasy battle…I wonder how it will change the “feels” of what I love about this series. To be found out!

The Becoming was an interesting book - I was intrigued and couldn't put it down.

However, this is not the best Nora Roberts novel I've read. There were so many characters that I became confused - and very few of the large cast of characters felt fully developed. The dialogue, too, felt a bit stilted.

Finally, I am not a fan of the romance between our two main characters - Breen and Keegan. They have hardly talked - they have just been physically intimate. The majority of times they have talked, Keegan has just been rude and demeaning to Breen. I feel like I can't get behind their romance since I hardly sense any true romance between them.

Such a good expansion on the first book. I loved that Marco got to be introduced into the world of Talamh and for Breen to carry him through the wonder that she had only just experienced. It was a lovely moment of continuity.
