I really wanted this book to be good. It had so much hype surrounding it that I was prepared for some epic love story with a mafia boss and a touch her and die trope.
I guess, technically,  this story could be considered that,  but it tried WAY to hard and felt force all around. I was instantly pulled in from the moment Nero showed up on her balcony. I thought, "This is it! This is how you start a story!" I wanted them to sit on the couch and just laugh at the movie as if they were old friends and build a legit friendship. Her falling asleep with a total stranger on the run from the cops right next to her? It's not gonna happen. Yeh, right.  L-7 WEENIE!  The instant love/obsession was a bit ridiculous, and it took WAY too long in the book for any action to happen and when it does?? Disappointed isn't even a strong enough word to describe the letdown.  The author shouldn't spent even a little bit of time building a friendship or literally any other reason for Nero to fall in love beside she was pretty and had a nightmare 🙄 and then get mad later because someone else calls her just "pretty." Dude had the ability, but the relationship is totally shallow, and that's hard to connect with.

WOW!! i picked this up because book 3 just released and i am in LOVE with this series!! s.j. writes in such a way that A) i'm immediately hooked in and B) i don't want to put the book down. i ate this one up so fast. it has some scenes that are lowkey a little icky for me
mainly the whole virgin blood scene..... nero wtf?!?!
but overall i had a GREAT time. i'm honestly kind of a sucker for the whole "stalking" and "he broke into my house but not to hurt me" vibes of this and can't wait to read the next one!

I saw this book rec'd for people just getting into dark romance so I figured I'd give it a try. If you like a man with red flags you'll happily ignore...Nero is the man for you. haha So many moments of...this shouldn't be hot this is very bad behavior...and yet 🔥

The overall story of Nero and Payton was a lot of fun to read though I do wish we got a little more detail. Too many times it felt like something was mentioned, that is important and we should know more about, and then it wouldn't be mentioned again. Hoping that the next book that features King gives us a little more context and info.

There is something so satisfying about soft girls getting their happy ending with men obsessed with them and their every move and curve ♥️

Don't get me wrong, I love badass FMCs but this book proves that sometimes, you can be broken and soft and more of a "flight" girl than a "fight girl" and that's okay, a stalker will also get to your window, become obsessed with you and buy you the world. And ain't that the dream !
I loved sweet Payton and I obsessed over crazy Nero. The fact that we know so little about him and yet, I understand exactly where his madness comes from and goes to left me speechless. We get a small backstory but mostly it is about him when he is with her, because nothing else exists and I did not know I needed that. His obsession is also the cutest, of course he stalks Payton from across her apartment but hey, it is a dark romance so, pretty standard I would say. But he buys the drinks she likes, steals her body wash because he wants his house to smell like her, gets her a dog because she mindlessly mentions she loves dog and wants one !!! The way I swoon for this guy.

The plot is pretty standard for a mafia romance but SJ Tilly did a great job at covering her tracks and introducing different potential villains so I was still surprised at the end.
TW for graphic violance
