This is a beautiful book with lovely illustrations and time period photographs and good information. It is well written and well-researched. It tells the story of Black Elk from his childhood before he had any contact with the Wha-shi-choos (white people) and goes through his life and the lifes of the native americans as the white people killed off the buffalos, most of the native americans, and their way of life. It tells about Black Elk's stint with Buffalo Bill and at the battle of Wounded Knee. And it tells about Black Elk's vision of peace for all people.
