The fact that Aaron is Levi's brother just made this read even better and then the fact that Dani not only knew Aaron when he was younger but also Levi and that they use to hang out together made it the best! You can really feel the wallowing in self pity that Aaron does and you get it when no one will listen or believe you to what really caused his injuries and that in order to move on in anyway he needs to find out the truth as well as build back relationships he once had. There is plenty of emotion to be found in this book along with laughs, betrayal, hope, love and freaking cute animals so what more could you want!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wounded warriors and the best haven for them. Not only healing their injuries but their souls as well.
These characters reconnected after knowing each other as teenagers. Both had their own paths to follow as they grew. This looks like a promising series, I really enjoyed the first one.

Alright lads, we need to have a chat about this one. This was just so...ugh. It wasn't bad per se, it just felt like there was nothing to it, we only saw everything surface level. That's not always a bad thing but in this case, it just felt like they were trying to do something that just didn't work at all.

This book felt like it kept throwing things at us: war, disability, betrayal, abuse and other such things. That's okay, I like things that can deal with some tough topics. The issue here was that we just didn't. For example,
Spoilerwe learn that Dani was abused in a past relationship.
This could have been a really interesting storyline to dive down but instead we heard about it like twice with no details at all, then she shouts about it to Aaron as if she's just said some mindboggling thing. It just felt weird and misplaced and just not dealt with very well.

A reoccurring theme in this book is also the fact that the two main characters liked each other when they were young. This was cool, something could have been done with it. Issue was that we never actually saw anything. Why did they like each other? How well did they get to know each other? It felt like we were being told every two seconds "omg they liked each other back then" but there was nothing to back it up. I wanted to be shown.

Idk, I feel like I'm not articulating myself very well here, it just felt as though there was no substance whatsoever in this book and that's just a real shame.

This book moved waaaaay too slowly. I’m not even talking about the love bits; even though the h acknowledges her attraction, I think it took until nearly 60% for them to actually look at each other and say, “Yeah, it might be nice.” Way too much about the setting, etc. - I like the idea, but this is a romance novel, not a how-many-horse-stalls novel.

There was also next to no action. I wondered if the book was trying to position itself as a “clean” story, but oddly enough, it was sprinkled with curse words. Which makes no difference to me, but it would be a huge turnoff for people who look for clean romances.
