Somewhat entertaining but felt rather repetitive and under-qualified, having listened to more thoroughly referenced non-fiction books recently.

A pretty enjoyable book to read. Don't expect a sudden urge to manifest character development after reading it but for someone who is currently struggling with self-trust in a fast paced community with greedy standard, this book does help in widening my vision to change my value in life to be a lot more simple and take the first little step to start doing what I want instead of what the society want. On the other hand, the lifestyle, standard, and examples that were written in this book legit screams an American perspective which is not recommended for those who still think in conventional way.

as an avid overthinker, i didn't believe this book could possibly tell or teach me anything i didn't already know. that this would be another one of those generic "stay positive and don't act like an asshole!" type of self-help books, but oh my goodness, was i wrong.

hilarious and actually genuine, this book is packed with truthful advice and helpful anecdotes about how to deal with life and all of the stupid shit that worries us way too much on a day-to-day basis.

and if you're thinking: "my life is going great, i don't need a self-help book" then you're 1) probably not even reading this, and 2) very wrong. this one is for everyone, not only for the depressed, the sad, the hopeless. this book is for everyone, because it talks about how we as humans and individuals can become better at dealing with our bullshit and start giving less fucks about unimportant, time-consuming subjects.

everyone should read this book. end of story.

Weirdly comforting. I listened to the audiobook over several days while multitasking; I was able to understand, question, and accept what was said easily. It’s necessary to sometimes hear these life-lessons reminders every once in a while.

2023: Every time I reread this book I feel differently about it, to some extent. Parts of it are contradictory and I think the quality decreases as the book continues, but the first few chapters are useful. Choosing your pain, responsibility and fault being different things, accepting that being average is okay, etc. But once it gets past that point it seems like he just wants to brag about his previous sexual escapades. I guess he's trying to come across as honest, relatable, and vulnerable by writing about his past and where he felt he went wrong, but instead it just seems like he's screaming I'M FUCKABLE, I SWEAR at us all.

2022: Still an immensely useful book to me. I don't think Manson is always right, especially as it seems as if he's never experienced systemic discrimination, but I do think he has a lot of good points. Maybe one day I'll stop blocking out the bits I don't want to hear lol.
