It really wasn't all that good. Too much time was covered in such a short book. It was all surface with no depth. It felt like a telling of what had happened in the past without going into any detail. And then for a paranormal, other than the fact that it was mentioned he was a bear shifter and he shifted twice, it had absolutely no bearing on the story.

I got this book for free at some point and honestly only read it to complete a reading challenge. I can't see myself trying this author again, it just wasn't my taste.

So there were a lot of tropes that I liked in this one and the writing had potential. But... It all felt so rushed. There was a cramped feeling to the story and I felt the plot and writing deserved a little more room to stretch out. The bonus story wasn't my speed at all. Both could have used an editorial eye but they weren't as error ridden as some that have have made my eye twitch.

I don't really want to give one star reviews in 2017, but I feel like I have to for this one. There will be spoilers. These moments took me out of reading and made me say "what the...? Huh?"

The first two paragraphs of this book seemed like a book report. They were character summaries. The entire book seemed like a cross between a book report and a script for a skit. The H and h are introduced as children but I don't understand why. It's not like we really get to see the passage of time. They have a one night thing before high school graduation, she finds out he's a shifter, and they don't see each other again until their ten year reunion. She tells him about their child and gets upset that he won't instantly forgive her. When the H finally comes to visit his son, she tells the boy about him as he's pulling up. Then this ten year old boy runs up to a strange man yelling "daddy."

I wanted to stop reading somewhere around this point, but I have a goal to finish the books I read in 2017 for accurate reviews.

Another negative for me was I felt the shifter aspect of this book was a ploy to get new readers. It was completely unnecessary for this book. He shifts 2 or 3 times in the entire book. There's no questions about how long he could do that, would their child be like that, how did he get that ability, or anything that it would seem like she would want to know. I got this book because I love secret baby romance and shifters. This book did not fulfill that desire.
