An okay story collection with mainly a focus on the supernatural and cosmic/ecological horror. Some stories did not hit very well (Hospice, I’m looking at you) and others were pretty good. Not sure if I’d read another Brian Evenson again, but it was an interesting read. Not many of the stories have stuck with me though.

Brilliant. I rarely find a short story collection where there’s not at least one story I end up skipping, but no skips here, it’s all consistently great. Genuinely unnerving at times, at other times just curious. Very original, beautifully written, just my ideal speculative horror collection here.

My second Evenson short story collection, after Song for the Unraveling of the World. This one feels more cohesive and polished, with a thread of ecological disaster running through many of the stories here. There wasn't a single weak tale, though "To Breathe the Air," "His Haunting," and "The Shimmering Wall" were standouts for me.
