I could have sworn my memory of checking this book out of the library in middle school had been a fever dream

J ANDERSO - humor, mystery, bk 2 of M T Anderson's Thrilling Tales
The trio go on vacation and mystery follows. Tons of new quirky characters are introduced. Even more parody with some poignant friendship and identity moments. The suspense is heightened as well. Might appeal more to older readers. 9 - 12

3.5 stars. Not quite a brilliant as it's predecessor ([b:Whales on Stilts|538838|Whales on Stilts M.T. Anderson's Thrilling Tales (M. T. Anderson's Thrilling Tales)|M.T. Anderson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1175631026s/538838.jpg|3360339]), but still made me laugh.

It was fun, and the writing was tight and clever. At times, it threatened to cross the line to preciousness and over-the-top quirkiness, but I thought its absurdity worked most of the time. It will be especially enjoyable to people who have read a lot of children's mysteries, because it plays with the cliches and Mary-Sues of that genre.

This series is so ridiculous and I love it (which is odd because I haven't been able to get into any of Anderson's YA books as much). This one is my favorite of the two because it pokes fun at all the classic kids series, like Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Goosebumps, and more. Very silly.

Love the humor and the sweet (though maybe heavy-handed, though maybe I'm projecting) messages.
