Eu não tinha muitas expectativas em relação a esse livro, já que comecei imediatamente após ouvir sobre ele, então a unica coisa que eu esperava era um livro que me entretesse e mantivesse envolvida com os personagens e os acontecimentos, que foi o que aconteceu. Eu esperava também um romance enemies to lovers, e apesar de ser o caso, não aconteceu exatamente como eu esperava.
Opal, a personagem principal, é uma princesa que foi protegida a vida toda, amada mas vista somente como uma ferramenta para continuar a linhagem da família. Eu gostei dela - é corajosa, gentil, tem um forte senso de justiça e está disposta a correr riscos mesmo sabendo que pode acabar mal. Ela também cria planos ingênuos para atingir seus objetivos, planos esses que o Dade nota com a maior facilidade e permite só para ver o que vai acontecer.
Dade, por outro lado, é o interesse amoroso/vilão da história, um personagem intenso e poderoso. Ele é confiante, arrogante, mas tem um lado carinhoso reservado para a Opal. No decorrer do livro vamos conhecendo-o melhor, aprendendo mais sobre sua história e motivações, e para mim ele é um perfeito exemplo de "vilão" de enemies to lovers - aquele que fez coisas imperdoáveis, mas que se tornam entendíveis quando se descobre o porquê. Algumas das coisas que ele faz me pareceram bem problemáticas, mas por se tratar de um livro de fantasia que se passa durante uma guerra, eu relevei.
No entanto, um problema que vi nesse livro é que Dade é muito melhor trabalhado que Opal. Ela é uma ótima personagem, mas ela é o que é - durante o livro não vemos muito mais dela do que o que é mostrado ao início, enquanto cada vez mais vemos novas camadas do Dade. E embora eu entenda que essas camadas são necessárias para transformar um vilão num mocinho, foi um pouco frustrante ver o Dade se revelando diante de nossos olhos enquanto a Opal continua a mesma. Inclusive em algumas das cenas - principalmente algumas narradas pelo Dade - ela parece ser nada mais do que uma princesa bonitinha e educada.
Considerando as diferenças entre os dois, pensei que seria um slow burn, o que não aconteceu. O relacionamento deles não é apressado, e os personagens realmente têm química juntos, então isso não me incomodou, mas foi uma surpresa. O foco do livro é principalmente no relacionamento entre eles, e apesar de ter um pouco de política envolvida, ela não é tão presente com exceção de alguns momentos nos quais ela se torna um pouco mais importante.
O livro não é particularmente comprido, com mais ou menos 350 páginas, mas tem sempre muita coisa acontecendo, e mesmo que algumas das reviravoltas não sejam tão surpreendentes, isso manteve a leitura num ritmo rápido. Também deu a sensação de que a história era muito maior do que realmente é - quando acabei e lembrei dos acontecimentos das primeiras páginas, quase parecia que eram de outro livro. No entanto, não achei isso ruim, pois me manteve imersa na leitura. Infelizmente, eu pensei que fosse um livro único quando na verdade esse é o primeiro de uma série, no entanto também não foi um grande problema - apesar das pontas soltas para criar ganchos para o próximo livro, o final não ficou aberto demais.
No geral, achei um livro bom, divertido e rápido de ler, mas senti um pouco de falta de alguns desenvolvimentos a mais ou algo que realmente o tornasse num livro que se destaca entre os outros do mesmo tipo.

Amazing
Loved this book! Great plot and character development. Author channeled the Goldilocks of burn, spice, action, and length. Not to hot, not too cold, just the right burn and evolution.

It was 3,5/ 4 stars read for me.
I really like this novel. But I have very mixed feelings about it. I went in blind with this book, I didn't even read the blurb or the reviews. I just was in a mood for some fantasy and I saw this new release with a pretty cover and with good overall ratings and in KU so I dived into it.
The Savage and The Swan was very strange an unique and confusing for me. I like the world that the author had built and the main characters were interesting and the growing chemistry between the two of them and their complicated relationships were very entertaining. It was perfect enemies to lovers trope. But the plot was very confusing at first, I didn't know what was the genesis of this whole story and the conflicts that were presented. But this was also the reason that kept me going. I was intrigued and fascinated but also it was frustrating AF. And there were different threads of plot in this story that didn't blend well with the rest, f.e. something was mentioned about the ability that the mc had and at the time it appeared as important to the whole story but then it never came up again. Yes that ability was important to that specific thread of this story but you would think it is something that would come up again, it is some special power after all.
So yes it was confusing and some threads didn't interlock perfectly with the rest, but still I enjoyed it! I really did. There so much going on I was and i love when there is action in the book. At some point I really couldn't see how the mc could be together there was so much bad blood between them. How this could work??? But she did it!!! And I like it!!

Let it be known that I read a fantasy book about Fae, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I read it in under a day. Pigs really DO FLY! 🐖🪽
Also, where can I get a Dade? 😮💨 His character was SO GOOD.
If a few things have been more polished (like world building, some of the scenes), then this would have been a solid 5 ⭐️.
