This series has gotten darker, but then, in a series about a boy that fights witches and other creatures, what do you expect.
First, hats off to Mr Delaney. He is doing one thing correct, and that is that he creates a complete story within his set of given pages. There is finality when you read the last page, with a glimmer of the future beyond. The future is not bright and cheery, but it is a future for Tom, and one that I want to follow.
Alice has been there throughout, and is proving to be a companion through and through as well.
And, then there is the spook. He is still very much the grumpy old man, but his moments do soften him a bit.
Tom is growing, and everything that he has learned is used, and he continues to grow, and the reader along with him. This is a wonderful series and very much what I would compare to Harry Potter, if he were a witch hunter instead of a wizard.

Book three of the series. I still like it a lot. I hope that Thomas will learn witchcraft, im sure he can do magic naturallu unlike Morgan who has to obtain it. his death was kinda gruesome for a book i thought was for children...

Another good instalment of the Spooks series. Though I found the story quite predictable and, by book three, I am ready for the pace to slow and spend more time exploring the relationships between the Spook, Tom and Alice.
