This was a little stocking-stuffer type book that shares some history about the plants we see around the holidays (mistletoe, wreaths, holly, etc.) this does acknowledge the pagan roots but mostly focuses around a christian perspective.

This would have made it just a two star read for me, it being a bit of a gift book but when this book goes to talk about the yule log chapter it said that it was bad luck for a yule log to be in the same room with "barefoot and squint eyed" persons. Now, i'm sure the "barefoot" could be interpreted as poor or several different ways. "Squint-eyed" can only be racist towards Asian folks. I couldn't help but wonder where the author got this from and also why even include it?

(I borrowed this from the library; so I wish I thought to grab the page number but the edition was the 2000 copyright. I think I also remember there perhaps being a cite page at the end. So if someone explores that I'd be interested to know what you find.)
