⁕ This book is straight up brutal. It takes a look at the "special meat" industry from start to finish in specific detail that is no way allegorical. This books is not for the faint of heart.
⁕ Bazterrica does a fantastic job creating moral conflict by exploring how humans rationalize cannibalism through euphemisms and language changes. However, I do wish that the narrative covered the transition period over which cannibalism became acceptable (instead of life after the fact). I think It would have been much more impactful to see that process occur as the reader than just the aftermath of it.

Other than that, I loved this book from start to finish.
Agustina Bazterrica takes you into this dystopian Argentina and through her smooth an flowy writing allows you to be in the main character's mind, memories and how he sees this new, disturbing world.
From scene number one you get to see where you are, where Marcos is, how this world works. She finds a way to build this world while letting you inside Marcos' personal life and struggle to keep his humanity and compassion.
It is such a critique to the government, corporations, big corporations and capitalism, all of that is represented - sometimes even directly - and critiqued using this canibal society as the vehicle.
It makes you think, wonder, and judge the world we live in while telling a compelling story with a twisted ending.
