I’ve no idea why I waited so long to read this!! This is my ninth Schwab book (I think) and I’ve owned the duology for three years but never picked it up until I did the other day, and I’m so gald I did - after months of slow reads I flew through this one in 3 days, and it was WONDERFUL. The dark side and eeriness of Schwab’s voice shines through this book in such a weirdly hope-filled way; August and Kate are wonderful main characters to follow, and I can’t wait to pick up the next book.

at first, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to read a book of this nature without having some type of romance in it, but I'm super glad that there was no romance. Much like the other books I've read, I literally had no idea what I was getting into, I saw it at the book store – I liked the author, and the invisible life of Addie La Rue, and the blurb seemed cool enough – so I got it.

It was so refreshing to read a story without a love story, it's like a buffer, something I didn't think I needed but did. I love friendship <3 or whatever it is that was going on between Kate and August... They really went through it during the book. And despite how much I like it as a story, while I was reading it, I was imagining it as a movie – it would be a cool movie, but it shouldn't be one, but god it would be so cool.

Also, Leo is so hot. And it took me a solid 15 chapters to figure out what all the monsters were, but that's just me.

Really more of a 3 1/2 Star book. Starts slow but it picks up as it goes.

I was blow away by this book. It was just really different from what I read before.

It took me a couple chapters to get into the setting and world, because it’s different but it was a very easy concept to adept to and dive into.

It is a pretty dark and scary world but also was easy to relate and understand. There is not much I can say without spoiling it so I will make it short.

As I said I really loved that it is a new world something we don’t see everywhere, I loved the characters. They never just black and white and with a bunch of nice plot twists they never do what you think they will .

I loved both Kate and August. Both had their strengths and weaknesses but together they were a great team and balanced each other out. I also enjoyed that Kate seemed to be tougher at times than August, her being human and him being a “monster’ and all . But I think what I enjoyed most was the awesome friendship instead of romance, so far.

Overall it was something fresh that was actin packed , thrilling and had many twist and turns, it was super fun and fast to read and I had a hard time putting it down.

The end was semi unexpected and I’m very much looking forward to book two .

I rate this book a full 5 ★

A copy of this book was sent to me by Titan Books in exchange for an honest review.

Oh. My. God. Okay, so I actually finished this on the 6th June and thought great, I can post a review on release day. BUT nope that didn't happen because I honestly had no idea how I was going to write this. Let me attempt this okay:

From the first few pages I knew that this was going to be a book that I would end up loving and I wasn't wrong. It was intriguing to start with, the writing pulled me in and didn't let go until the final page. The concept is so interesting. I usually hate novellas but I could honestly do with a whole bunch of these, I'd love to see this world from different view points. The best thing about this book was that both of the main characters, Kate and August, were so so likeable which is becoming a rare thing lately so it was refreshing to have two great characters to follow. I found that I enjoyed reading both POV's and wasn't wishing one would end so we could get back to the other one.

Another excellent book by V.E. Schwab, This Savage Song was an excellent story about monsters, family, and the struggle to be better than you currently are. While not as engaging or gripping as The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue or the Shades of Magic series, Schwab's writing is still fantastic. I'm looking forward to reading Our Dark Duet, the next book in the Monsters of Verity series.
