I can't help but think that with a lot of these types of books, my rating would have been higher had I read them in high school like most other people. While I find them interesting and entertaining, I'm just not wowed by them or anything. Or atleast not as much as most people seem to be.

Holden Caulfield is hilarious. I love the way he thinks and talks. I have selected quite a few of his little terms to use myself from now on. And I love his view on girls, what a maroon!

I think my favorite part was when he was with his sister. It really showed a great side of him, she just adored him so much. And when she showed up at the museum with her little suitcase I almost started crying.

All in all a great book, I flew through it.

I can appreciate the stream of consciousness writing style and contradicting thoughts as Holden is trying to figure out the world and his opinions/emotions to a degree- but after a while I was not only bored but continuously annoyed by him. I kept waiting for something to happen and nothing ever did. I still didn’t even like him by the end of it.

I was never assigned this in high school and think that is when most people tend to read this book, so I thought that I would read it and see why it is assigned so frequently. I liked it, but I dont think that it really lived up to the expectations I had, because so many people seem to love it.
