2,5/5

It breaks my heart to give such a low rating to one of Klune's books. I have read 4/5 books of his but they're his most recent works and.. It shows. This book was rushed, both the plot and the writing style. Way too many things happened in such a short amount of time.
Having read his most recent works, i can see how his writing style developed and improved and, though I'm still curious to see how the story of Bear, Otter and the Kid's evolves, it doesn't give me that feeling of attachment his other books gave me. I can say that I care about these characters but not so much that I keep reading until 2 am just to make sure they're okay (which happened not even a week ago while reading Heartsong lol).
Another criticism was toward the Kid. I can see he wanted to depict a child who had to grow fast because of the environment surrounding him, but this was just way too unnatural.

I'm still not sure whether or not I will continue this series, but I don't regret reading it, it had been on my tbr forever and I'm glad I finally got around to it, for better or worse!

If it was possible i would try and steal myself some otter

Just finished my first TJ Klune book. And i have to say... I loved it. I'm new to the m/m romance genre but In the last few weeks I've been reading more than I've ever read in my life. I've been tearing through these books and don't see myself stopping anytime soon. This is the first one actually written by a queer man that I've actually finished. I tried to read another highly recommended book, "hot heads" but just never really felt attached to the characters. That was not a problem with this book.

I loved these characters. I'm in love with otter. Many of the books I've really loved have been high angst and while i couldn't put them down, it felt like they were literally hurting me to read. This book is angsty, and i could feel my patience wearing thin with all the "but I'm not gay" stuff ( not to say it wasn't a realistic reaction). The book did give me the feels, but it was just the right amount in my opinion. i think I'm going to start on the second book right now.

Valutazione: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5.

It's a cute story with cute characters. The characters and plot resemble an excellent movie called 'Shelter,' I recommend watching it if you haven't. Overall, this story was OK, but there were many cringe moments. Why is an 8-year-old present when inappropriate topics are being discussed?

I'm just gonna stop listening to this audiobook now because I don't think me and this book were meant to be.

Beautifully written, and complicated in grief and abandonment, with the coming together of a family. I really enjoyed the pacing and writing style, and how Bear deals with his depression and repression felt very realistic. I also adored the Kid - I loved everything about him and am rooting for him so hard.

Well-written found family is my weakness and this book has it in spades.

The age difference is also handled well - I’m not usually a huge fan of a big age gap but having the main characters apart for as long as they were, to allow for time and experience to pass, helped immensely in making it feel like an earned romantic partnership.
