For so short a novel, this story has a lot of points of view and repeats its motifs quite a bit. The diction is a bit ren faire, the morality is simple and, by the time the climactic blow falls, the action has been stacked so far in favor of the protagonists it feels like a forgone conclusion. Despite all that, I found myself charmed by their basic goodness and the way mayhar writes about powers of the spirit.
