I wanted to read this book because I love fantasy. However, I’ve only ever read young adult fantasy and wanted something with adults rather than teenagers skipping school. I have watched the TV show and always wanted to read the series. During lockdown, I re-watched the TV show and forgot how much I loved it. I decided to read this series and was not disappointed with the first couple of books, however as this series is going on I'm getting more and more disappointed.

This book is based on Jaime Vegas. Three spiritualists have gathered together in one house to raise the ghost of Marilyn Monroe and it’s the most anticipated reality television event of the year. Unlike her colleagues, Jaime is the real deal, and she knows that the house they are staying in is truly haunted. Not by dead film starts, but by something even stranger and much more disturbing. A tragic mystery lurks in the maze of gardens behind the house. There are trapped spirits that only Jaime can hear. As their whispers grow more frantic, Jaime along with Jeremy are forced to embark on an investigation into a shocking underworld of black magic and ritual sacrifice.

Just like some of the books within this series, I was disappointed. I just found it really difficult to get into and considering I know the characters and loved Jaime’s appearance in the previous books. I think I didn’t like the human “magic” aspect of it. The whole series has been someone getting kidnapped, or someone helping someone else, and this book was just all over the place. From the TV aspect and how bitchy and two-faced Hollywood can be, to the human sacrifices and the sex dungeon aspect of it. Then the actual plot of the wandering souls of children, it was just a mess.

The only reason this book didn’t get two stars was because of Jeremy fucking Denver. I love him and seeing him be a love interest just made my heart warm and my daddy issues comes up to the surface. I love Jeremy as a character so to see him trying to be a gentleman but also wanting to get down and dirty with Jaime was just adorable and hilarious.

I think nothing could beat the first book with Elena being a kickass powerful woman and the pack being the protective boys. I don’t like the necromancer side of things and I had just got used to the spirit talks and the witches, but I will always want the books with the wolf pack.
