for a thriller, this starts awfully slow. it looks like it'd get interesting if i could stick with it, but it's just far too exposition-heavy at the start, to the point where the conversations don't sound like real people communicating, but rather like the author taking you by the shoulders and telling you directly what he wants you to know. idk, maybe i'm just not in the right headspace to devote the time to getting into it—i've given much worse books a longer grace period. would rec if you're looking for a meditation on violence, sexuality, neurodivergence/mental illness, class, and gender. presumably disability comes up, but i haven't gotten there yet.
