I'm not sure how I would have felt about this book if I was reading it as a kid today, but as an adult, it definitely felt like I was reading a book by an adult who loves video games. All of the references felt like they were coming from somebody my age. Although I appreciated where Brown was going with his story, I just didn't feel like it connected. It wasn't serious enough to be a serious book or silly enough to be a silly book, so it ended up stuck in between. I'm sure the cover will draw some kids in, and I hope they enjoy it better than I did!

My friend Gavin wrote a book! It's adorable. Every t-shirt Josh Baxter wears in it is described as "my favorite t-shirt."

A fun look at being the new kid at school framed in video games. Recommended for grades 4 & up, especially gamers.

Fun, fast-paced story of a kid struggling to fit in at a new school. Will definitely appeal to kids who love video games.

Trying a bit too hard to appeal to gamers and I think massively misses its target. I really wanted to like this one but just wound up disappointed. Living on the fringe of the gaming world, it felt like overkill, and sharing it with actual gamers merely confirmed it.

Eh. my 11 yr old son like it and the video game format better than I did. I thought it was just OK.
