John Floyd is a master of short stories, whether deep mystery or light-hearted whodunit. He's mastered his craft and demonstrated it cleanly in Dreamland. They are solid in plotting and character with just enough twist in the end to be satisfying. The man has published in the Saturday Evening Post, The Strand, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, Sherlock Homes Mystery Magazine, and yes, even the elusive Woman's World. He has quite a few stories featuring Sheriff Lucy Valentine and her sleuth mother Fran, ever with a swath of wit and keen eye for clues. Dentonville and Molly's Plan were two of my favorites. Secrets was pretty sweet as well. This man loves to write the short story, and he's mighty good at it.
