The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum

I love this book. I have read it twice before, I think. Yeah, some of Ludlum's naming conventions are a bit repetitive ("the son of the shepherd boy" and names like that are used too frequently), but a lot of this book is exceptionally good. The female lead isn't a dope. The evolution of how Bourne is referred to in dialogue tags: from "the man" to "J. Bourne" when he only knew part of his name to "Jason Bourne".... It is an exceptionally compelling story.

This was such cringey writing and a terrible portrayal of women. Just watch Matt Damon it’s less bad.

I must have been all of fifteen when I first read the series. Now with all the movies coming out to rave reviews (although I doubt many people know they are based on books, much less on whose books), I've decided it was a good time to reread them.

Apparently, I've forgotten quite a bit. This was a good read, covering all 3 movies (more or less).

To be honest, i expected something close to the movie. However, the book was much much better. Enough action mixed with political-spy thriller and many twists. What i didn't like were the phrases that the author kept repeating, to the point that made the reader get tired or even bored. The romance was there too, but, fortunately, it wasn't too much as to spoil the main idea. Quite enjoyable.

The characters in this book are what really sold me. Interesting, complex, and well-developed. While this isn't my favourite series, and it is outside my usual genre, it was still a good book.

A vert different story than the movie. You can't get the sense of action in the fight scenes like you do in the movie, but you still get the urgency and the craziness with the drama. Very enjoyable, though I wonder where the next in the series takes it.
